Getting from UVA to AFTON PEAK

If you are wondering how to get from Charlottesville to Afton Mountain or Nelson County, it is straightforward. Driving takes about 25 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. The route is simple, and the transition from Charlottesville into the Blue Ridge Mountains happens quickly.

If you prefer not to drive, Uber works well with a bit of planning. Many guests arrange rides in advance, especially for evenings. Car services are also easy to coordinate if you want something more structured.

We have done it both ways. On a few trips, we took the train from Washington, DC to Charlottesville, then Ubered out to AFTON PEAK and back without any issues.

A Stop Worth Making in Charlottesville

If you are heading back from campus or leaving town, it is worth stopping by Pi-Napo Pizzeria. It is a strong, casual stop and fits naturally into the flow of the day. Something easy, well done, and a good way to reset before heading back toward Afton Mountain.

UVA Football Weekends and Scott Stadium

For football weekends, the dynamic shifts. Games at Scott Stadium bring people into Charlottesville in a way that changes the pace of everything. Staying close to campus keeps you in the middle of it, but it also means smaller spaces and more movement throughout the day.

AFTON PEAK offers a different approach. You can go to the game, spend time with the Hoos, and then come back to a full house. A real kitchen, a large TV, space for everyone, and a hot tub in the evening. It turns the weekend into something more complete.

The drive back is short enough that it never feels like a burden.

A Small Example

We had a visiting law professor from UVA Law stay at AFTON PEAK during a trip. He appreciated the quiet, the space, and the ability to step away from Grounds at the end of the day. He has already booked again for next year. That tends to be the pattern.

A Note on Safety and Planning

However you plan the trip, it is worth saying clearly. Do not drink and drive.

Between Uber, car services arranged by our concierge, and planning ahead, there are easy ways to get back safely. Most guests find that arranging transportation in advance makes the entire weekend smoother.

Final Thought

If you are visiting the University of Virginia, you have options. Staying in Charlottesville keeps you close to campus. Staying at AFTON PEAK gives you more room, more comfort, and a better way to end the day. The distance between the two is short enough that you do not have to choose between them.
